Good Heart

We live in a wonderful world.

It was wonderful because it was created good. God, in His goodness, made it perfectly, and was able to call His work “very good”.

And we were part of that goodness.

Man and woman dwelt together in love, and we knew God intimately.

There was no evil, no destruction, no fear, no hurt, there was purpose, satisfaction and joy.

Broken Heart

But we know our world is terribly broken.

And we know it’s our fault. It’s the selfishness, the pride, the evil in our hearts that’s destroyed it. It is broken because our lives are broken.

Our rebellion, my sin, has broken our world and me.

And it’s not just the earth. Relationships broken, lives broken, minds broken – and it’s because of us.

There is evil, we destroy, we fear, we hurt, we hope in vain. We long for something better.

Healed Heart

The problem is our broken hearts – we need healing.

But how? No matter how hard we try, we only scratch the surface. Even if we come together to try to help, we end up hurting each other. My heart problem is too deep.

But there is a solution: out of love, Jesus reached into our brokenness, lived the perfect life we can’t live, died to pay the price of my sin, and rose to offer us new life, to work in us new hearts, to make us new creatures.

He offers us new life, so we can start to live as we ought now, and one day live as He intended, in His new world.

Heart of Love

There will be a new day, a new earth, a new Kingdom.

Our world is broken. It has been for millennia.

But God, in His love, will start again. There will be a new world. And that world will be for His new creatures – those who He has given new hearts, hearts of love.

And we can start to experience something of His new creation now. If I realise I am the problem, if I thank Him for dealing with my rebellion, if I ask Him to wash away my sin and make me a new person, I will start this new life. A life in love with God, His people and His world.
